“When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O Lord, held me up.” Psalms 94:18

We have just been through a very difficult winter. Because of the ice and snow that we had this year, you may have stepped out of your house and onto your driveway and suddenly felt your foot slip due to the ice beneath it. There is perhaps no more helpless feeling because, at that moment, we are completely out of control. There is nothing we can do to prevent that fall that will follow. Now, in the same way, there may be times when you feel yourself slipping on the struggles and difficulties of life, and you may felt helpless to do anything about them. But if you know the Lord, if you are His child, you have the assurance that, even in the times when we may feel totally out of control of the circumstances of life, God’s mercy is there. And out of His mercy and His love for us, He catches us, and He stabilizes us. In the times when we have no answers of our own and we see no way out, we have the reassurance that God is there, ready to catch us in our time of deepest need. This is the promise He makes to every one of His children, and it is a promise we can depend on.
