“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:8

One thing every parent longs for from their children is obedience. Every parent wants their child to respond in a positive way when they are given instruction. And so, most of a child’s early childhood is directed toward helping him or her learn to obey. And in the same way, God has one primary desire and one main requirement from those who know Him: He requires obedience. God wants us to respond to His directions and His commands without resistance, without trying to do things our own way. He wants us to respond to His directives with simple obedience. He just wants us to do what He has asked us to do. And to provide an illustration of that obedience, He points us to His Son. Throughout His thirty-three years on this earth, Jesus Christ was obedient to every command of the Father. And His complete obedience was ultimately demonstrated as He submitted Himself to death on the cross. Jesus Christ is our example of how we are to respond to the Father. May we, as believers, be a people who will always respond to God in simple, Christ-like obedience.
