“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:6-7

The world has set aside one day each year to pause and give thanks for all that we have been given. But for a believer, thanksgiving is quite different. It is not a one-day event. It is not based in an emotion. It is not based on circumstances. It does not depend on whether we are having a good day or a bad day, if our bank account is full or empty, if all of our dreams are being fulfilled or not. Instead, we, as believers, are thankful as we consider all that we have been taught about the Lord, all that He has revealed to us about Himself. We are grateful for the principles we have learned about His mercy, about His grace, about His love for us. We give thanks as we realize that we are saved, that we are saved forever, and that we have nothing but an eternity with our Savior to look forward to. There may be days when life does not give us many reasons to be thankful. However, we can be thankful every day, in the best or worst of times, if we will simply consider all that God has taught us about Himself, all that He has promised us, and all that He has planned for us.
