“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

The foundation of America is based on a strong work ethic. This country was built by people who were willing to get their hands dirty and do what was needed to establish this nation. And because that is where our roots are, the thought among many is that good things only come to those who are willing to work for them. However, the best thing a person could ever acquire comes without the need for one ounce of work on our part. God’s salvation is provided to us by His grace, with no works attached. The whole idea of grace is that God provides something for us that we could never earn for ourselves. God’s salvation, the promise of eternal life, does not require us to do anything, except trust the work that the Lord Jesus did for us on the cross. As we repent of our sin and ask the Lord to save us, in His grace, God responds and grants us eternal life, not because we have earned it, but again, simply out of His grace toward us. Hard work may be the requirement to obtaining good things in this life, but when it comes to salvation, our works have no part of it; God’s grace covers it all. Praise God for the free gift of salvation, provided by God’s amazing grace!
