“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

As historians and theologians consider the death of the Lord Jesus Christ, many explanations are given for why He died. But the fact is, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ was more than just an event in history. It was more than just the death of a martyr dying for a cause, or the death of some misguided person who chose to die rather than give up on what he believed. Christ’s death was the culmination of the plan of God, something that God had planned before the world was formed. Christ died, not for Himself and not for some cause; Christ died for us. Our sin is what placed Him on the cross, and our sin is what He paid for when He died. And because of His sacrifice, man can be free from sin and can have fellowship and communion with God. Personal faith in the death of Jesus Christ allows His payment to become our payment, and we are healed from sin through faith in His work. If a person is willing to recognize their own sin, repent of it, trust the work of Christ on the cross as payment for their sin, and ask God to save them, He will save them. That is what the Lord’s crucifixion is truly about. Praise God He was willing to die for us!
